Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication adds a second step when you sign in. On top of your password, you enter a short code from an authenticator app on your phone. This guide shows how to turn it on for your own account and how admins can require it for the whole team.

What you need

An authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator. These apps show a new 6-digit code every 30 seconds, and that code is your second step at sign-in.

Turn on two-factor for your account

Open Settings and find the Security section, then follow these steps:

  1. Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
  2. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you cannot scan it, copy the key shown below the code and add it in your app by hand.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code your app shows.
  4. Click Verify & Enable.

Once it is on, you will see an Enabled badge, and from then on you will be asked for a code each time you sign in.

Turn off two-factor

In the same Security section, click Disable Two-Factor Authentication and confirm. Your account will be less secure, and you can turn it back on any time.

Require two-factor for your team

Admins can make two-factor mandatory for everyone. In Settings, under the organization security policy, turn on Require Two-Factor. After that, any team member who has not set it up is taken to a required setup screen the next time they sign in, and they must enable it before they can use the dashboard.

This is an organization-wide setting, so it pairs well with Team Management. You can turn the policy on or off from Organization Settings.

If it asks you to re-authenticate

Turning two-factor on or off sometimes needs a recent sign-in. If you see a message about re-authentication, log out, log back in, and try again.

Keep access to your authenticator app, since you need it to sign in. If you lose your device, contact us at hello@inletbase.com for help.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps work for two-factor?

Any standard authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator. You scan a QR code once and the app then shows a fresh 6-digit code every 30 seconds.

Where do I set it up?

Open Settings and find the Security section. That is where you turn two-factor on or off for your own account.

I cannot scan the QR code. What do I do?

Use the manual key shown below the QR code. Add a new account in your authenticator app and paste that key instead of scanning.

Can I require two-factor for my whole team?

Yes. Admins can turn on a policy that requires it. After that, any member who has not set it up is taken to a setup screen and must enable it before they can use the dashboard.

Why does it say re-authentication is required?

For security, some changes need a recent sign-in. Log out, log back in, and try again.
