Deploying & Embedding Your Chatbot
To put your chatbot live, you copy one small script and paste it into your website. The chat bubble then appears for your visitors. This guide shows where to find your embed code, how to add it, how to control which sites can use it, and how to turn the widget on and off.
The Deploy page
Open your chatbot and go to Deploy. This is the Channels page, where you choose where your chatbot goes live. Right now there is one channel ready to use:
- Chat widget: a floating chat window you add to your website. This is the channel you deploy with the steps below.
- Help page: a hosted help page for your bot. This is marked coming soon, so it is not available yet.
On the Chat widget card, the on and off switch turns the widget on or off, and Manage opens the widget editor where you customize it and find the embed code. See customizing the chat widget for the design settings.
Getting your embed code
There are two easy ways to get the code, and both give you the same script:
- From the widget editor: go to Deploy, click Manage on the Chat widget card, open the Embed tab, and use the copy button in the Widget setup box.
- From the Chatbots list: open the menu on your chatbot's row and choose Copy Embed Code.
The script looks like this, already filled in with your chatbot ID when you copy it:
<script src="https://api.inletbase.com/widget/chatbot.js" data-chatbot-id="YOUR_CHATBOT_ID" defer> </script>
Adding it to your website
Paste the script into your site's HTML, just before the closing </body> tag. That is all it takes. The widget then loads on every page where the script is present.
It works on WordPress, Webflow, Framer, Shopify, and custom sites. Most website builders have a place to add custom code or a script in the site settings or footer. Because the script uses the defer setting, it loads in the background and does not slow your page down.
Setting allowed domains
Allowed domains control which websites are allowed to show your chatbot. You set them in the Embed tab of the widget editor.
- Leave the list empty to allow the widget on any site.
- Add one or more domains to lock it down to just those sites.
- If someone copies your code onto a site you did not approve, the widget will not run there.
Your plan sets how many domains you can add, and the editor shows how many you have used. When you create a chatbot from your website, that domain is added for you automatically.
Turning the widget on and off
Every chatbot has a status. When it is active, the widget works on your site. When you switch it to disabled, the widget will not load anywhere, even if the script is still on your pages. You can flip this with the switch on the Chat widget card, or from the toggle at the top of the widget editor.
This gives you a simple, safe way to pause the chatbot without touching your website code.
Capturing leads from chats
When your chatbot collects a visitor's details during a chat, that lead flows into the same workflows as your forms. That means you can send email notifications or pass the lead to your other tools automatically, without any extra setup for the chatbot.
If the widget does not appear
- Check that the chatbot status is active, not disabled.
- Make sure the site is in your allowed domains, or that the list is empty.
- Confirm the script is pasted before the closing body tag and saved on your site.
- If you just changed settings, make sure you clicked Save Changes in Inletbase.
Next steps
Once your chatbot is live, keep an eye on how it is doing:
- Conversations shows every chat and the leads you captured.
- Knowledge Gaps shows the questions your chatbot could not answer, so you know what to add next.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I get my chatbot embed code?
Two places. Open your chatbot, go to Deploy, click Manage on the Chat widget card, and open the Embed tab. Or, on the Chatbots list, open the row menu and choose Copy Embed Code. The code already includes your chatbot ID.
Will the chat widget slow down my website?
No. The script loads on its own in the background using the defer setting, so it does not block your page from loading.
The widget is not showing on my site. Why?
Common reasons: the chatbot is disabled, the site is not in your allowed domains, the script was not pasted correctly, or your changes were not saved. Check each of these.
Can I limit which websites can show my chatbot?
Yes. In the Embed tab, add your sites under Allowed domains. If someone puts your code on a site you did not approve, the widget will not run there. Leave it empty to allow any site.
Does it work on WordPress, Webflow, and Framer?
Yes. The widget works on any website builder or CMS. You just paste the one script tag into your site, no extra code needed.
