Customizing the Chat Widget

The chat widget is the chat bubble and window your visitors see on your website. You can change what it says, how it looks, and which input features it offers. As you edit, a live preview on the right shows your changes right away. This guide covers every setting.

Opening the widget editor

Open your chatbot and go to Deploy. On the Chat widget card, click Manage. The editor opens with your settings on the left, split into three tabs, Content, Style, and Embed, and a live preview of the widget on the right.

At the top of the editor there is an on and off toggle. When it is on, your chatbot is active and the widget can appear on your site. When it is off, the chatbot is disabled and the widget will not load anywhere. You can read more about this in the deploying and embedding guide.

Content tab: what the widget says

The Content tab controls the words in your widget and which input features are turned on.

  • Display name: the title shown at the top of the chat window, like "Chat with us".
  • Initial message: the first greeting a visitor sees when the chat opens.
  • Suggested messages: short prompt starters shown as tappable chips. Add, edit, or remove them to guide visitors toward common questions.
  • Message placeholder: the faint hint text inside the message box, like "Type your message...".
  • Enable voice to text: shows a microphone button so visitors can speak instead of type. It is on by default and available on every plan.
  • Enable attachments: shows an attach button so visitors can send files in the chat. This is a paid-plan feature. On the free plan the toggle is turned off and shows an upgrade note.

Style tab: how the widget looks

The Style tab controls the visual design so the widget fits your brand.

  • Appearance: pick a Light or Dark theme for the chat window.
  • Profile picture: upload a chat icon, a JPG, PNG, or SVG up to 2MB. This shows as the avatar in the chat header. You can remove it any time to fall back to the default.
  • Primary color: the main color for the header, the chat bubble, and the visitor's messages.
  • Text color: the color of text that sits on the primary color.
  • Align chat bubble button: choose which corner the chat bubble sits in, bottom right, bottom left, top right, or top left. The live preview moves to match.

Embed tab: domains and the script

The Embed tab is where you control where the widget is allowed to run and get the code to add it to your site.

  • Allowed domains: restrict which websites can load your chatbot. Leave it empty to allow any site, or add domains to lock it down. Your plan sets how many domains you can add, and the editor shows how many you have used.
  • Widget setup: a ready-to-paste script tag with a copy button. You add this to your website to make the widget appear.

The deploying and embedding guide walks through adding the script to your site and setting allowed domains in full.

The live preview

On the right side of the editor is a live preview of your widget. It updates as you type, so you can see the title, greeting, suggested questions, colors, theme, avatar, and corner position exactly as a visitor would. It is the fastest way to check your design before you publish it.

Saving your changes

When you are happy with the widget, click Save Changes at the top of the page. Widget content and style changes apply as soon as you save. Unlike training data, these changes do not need a retrain, because they only affect how the widget looks and behaves.

Next steps

With your widget customized, the last step is to put it live:
