Form Fields

Fields are the boxes people fill in on your form, like name, email, and message. In Inletbase you choose which fields your form has, what kind of answer each one accepts, and whether it must be filled in. You add fields one at a time, and you can edit or remove them whenever you want.

How to add a field

Open any form from your dashboard, go to the Form Fields tab, and click "+ Add Field". A small window opens where you set four things:

• Label: The name people see next to the box, like "Full Name".
• Key: A short name used behind the scenes to label the answer, like full_name. Inletbase fills this in for you from the label, and you can change it while you are creating the field. It has to be unique on the form and can only use lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores. Once the field is created, the key stays the same and cannot be changed.
• Field Type: What kind of answer the box accepts. See the list below.
• Required: Turn this on if people must fill in the box before they can submit.

After you add a field, it appears in a list. Use the up and down arrows to change the order, and the edit and delete buttons to change or remove a field. When you are done, click Save so your changes take effect.

Field types you can use

Inletbase supports the field types below. The type decides what kind of answer is allowed when someone submits the form.

Setting your own choices

Dropdown, Radio, and Checkbox fields let you set your own list of choices. When you add or edit one of these fields, type your choices in the box, one on each line.

For Dropdown and Checkbox fields, you can also turn on "Allow Multiple Selection"so people can pick more than one. When you do, the answer is saved as a list instead of a single value.

Required fields and checks

Any field you mark as Required must be filled in. If someone tries to submit with a required field empty, the form will not go through, and they see a short error asking them to complete it.

The Email field also checks the format. If the value does not look like a real email address, the submission is not accepted.

Using field keys

Each field's key is the name used for its answer when your data is sent or stored. Most people never need to touch this. But if you or your developer send data to Inletbase with code, use the key as the name for each value, like this:

You also use keys in your email editor. Writing {{full_name}} in a template drops the person's answer into that spot, so your emails feel personal.
