AI Chatbot Overview

An Inletbase AI chatbot is a chat assistant you add to your website that answers visitor questions using your own content. You train it on your pages, files, and answers, customize how it looks, and add it to your site with one small script. This page explains how it works and how to go from an empty chatbot to a live one, step by step.

What is an Inletbase AI chatbot?

Think of it as a helper that sits in the corner of your website. When a visitor opens the chat and asks a question, the chatbot reads your content and replies in seconds. Because it only learns from the material you give it, the answers sound like your business and stick to your facts.

You can use it to answer common questions, guide people to the right page, and collect leads while you are away. It works day and night, so visitors get help even outside your working hours.

How your chatbot learns

Your chatbot starts out knowing nothing about your business. You teach it by adding content, which we call training data. When you train the agent, Inletbase reads that content and turns it into something the chatbot can search quickly.

When a visitor asks a question, the chatbot finds the most relevant pieces of your content first, then uses those pieces to write its answer. This is why it keeps close to what you actually said, instead of guessing. You can train it on four kinds of content:

Files

Upload documents like PDFs, text files, Word files, and spreadsheets (up to 5MB each). Good for manuals, product sheets, and policies.

Text snippets

Paste text straight into the dashboard. Handy for notes, short guides, or anything you do not have as a file.

Website pages

Add page links one by one, or let Inletbase crawl your site and pull in the pages for you. Great for keeping the chatbot in sync with your live content.

Q&A pairs

Write a question and the exact answer you want the chatbot to give. Perfect for replies that need to be worded a certain way.

Any time you add, change, or remove training data, you need to retrain the agent so the changes take effect. You will see a reminder when a retrain is needed. Learn more in the training guide.

What your chatbot can do

  • Answer questions using your content, in real time.
  • Capture leads by collecting a visitor's name and email during the chat.
  • Suggest starter questions so visitors know what to ask.
  • Greet visitors with a welcome message that can pop open on its own.
  • Accept voice input so visitors can speak instead of type.
  • Take file attachments from visitors during a chat (available on paid plans).
  • Match your brand with your own colors, logo, and wording.

From setup to a live chatbot in five steps

Getting a chatbot live follows the same simple path every time. Each step has its own guide with the details.

  1. Create the chatbot. Give it a name and, if you like, enter your website address so Inletbase can grab your logo and page links to get you started faster.
  2. Train it on your content. Add files, text, website pages, or Q&A pairs, then train the agent.
  3. Test it in the playground. Chat with your bot to check the answers before anyone else sees it.
  4. Customize the chat widget. Set the colors, avatar, welcome message, and suggested questions.
  5. Deploy it to your website. Copy the script, paste it into your site, and the chat widget appears.

Where your chatbot lives: the chat widget

On your website, the chatbot shows up as a floating chat bubble. When a visitor clicks it, the chat window opens. You control almost everything about how it looks and behaves, including the title, welcome message, suggested questions, colors, avatar, light or dark theme, and which corner it sits in.

To add it to your site, you paste a single script tag before the closing body tag. It looks like this:

<script
  src="https://api.inletbase.com/widget/chatbot.js"
  data-chatbot-id="YOUR_CHATBOT_ID"
  defer>
</script>

The script loads on its own without slowing your page down, and it works on WordPress, Webflow, Framer, and custom sites. The deploying and embedding guide covers this in full.

Keeping your chatbot accurate

Once your chatbot is live, Inletbase helps you keep it useful over time:

  • Conversations shows every chat, so you can read what visitors asked and see the leads you captured.
  • Knowledge Gaps collects the questions your chatbot could not answer, so you know exactly what content to add next.

When the chatbot collects a lead, it flows into the same workflows as your forms, so you can send notifications or pass the lead to your other tools automatically.

Turning your chatbot on and off

Every chatbot has a status. When it is active, the widget works on your site. When you set it to disabled, the widget will not load anywhere, even if the embed code is still on the page. This gives you a simple on and off switch.

You can also set allowed domains to control which websites are allowed to show your chatbot. If someone copies your embed code onto a site you did not approve, it will not run there.

Plans, limits, and AI credits

Your plan sets how much you can do, such as the number of chatbots you can create, how many files and website pages you can train on, and how many domains a chatbot can run on. Some features, like letting visitors attach files, are available on paid plans.

Each answer the chatbot gives uses a small amount of AI credits, and this includes the replies you get while testing in the playground. If you reach a limit, Inletbase tells you and points you to upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Inletbase AI chatbot?

It is a chat assistant you add to your website. It answers visitor questions using your own content, like your web pages, files, and Q&A pairs, so the replies match your business.

Does the chatbot make up answers?

It is built to answer from the content you give it. Before it replies, it looks up the most relevant pieces of your training data and uses those to write the answer, so it stays close to your facts.

Do I need to write code to use it?

No. You train and customize the chatbot in the dashboard, then paste one small script tag into your website to make the chat widget appear.

What can I train the chatbot on?

Four kinds of content: uploaded files (PDF, TXT, DOCX, XLSX), text snippets you paste in, pages from your website, and question-and-answer pairs you write yourself.

Will the chatbot work if I turn it off?

No. When a chatbot is set to disabled, its widget will not load on any website, even if the embed code is still in place. This gives you full control over when it is live.
